Tree of Life: Race Talks

St. Philip’s Tree of Life is our effort to give back to organizations that benefit our community, a commitment we made as a part of our 2019 Annual Budget. Not only do we experience God’s love in and through our parish, we recognize that God’s love is all around us, through organizations and ministries that care for all of God’s creation. Each one of these organizations is close to the heart of someone in our church family, and is supported by our…

Sing More, Talk Less!

Sue McDowell, Elizabeth Schroeder, Cynthia Faust and Mtr. Maria attended a Music that Makes Community workshop in Cincinnati from September 25-28 (checkout the pictures!). The trip was sponsored in large part by a generous grant from Province 8 of the national church. The workshop was co-hosted by St. Simon of Cyrene and Christ Church, Glendale. Tree of Life: Opportunities Kitchen

St. Philip’s Tree of Life is our effort to give back to those organizations that benefit our community, a commitment we made as a part of our 2019 Annual Budget. This month, we are giving to Opportunities Kitchen, an employment exposure program for Portland Metro Area’s Opportunity Youth which uses the Food Industry and Trades as a medium for career development.

Rector’s Note: Giving of Ourselves

As a part of our 2019 Annual Budget, as a parish we approved a 10% tithe of our expected income as Outreach. Outreach means any resources used to support activity and ministry outside of our immediate Parish needs: the Deacon’s Dining Hall, food to elderly shut-ins, or gas to travelers in need, supporting social and political issues we are committed to as a parish, such as the “Lift Every Voice” campaign. We already actively support the Deacon’s Dining Hall and…

Practices We Love: The Culture of St. Philip

Join us for our June Lunch & Chat: The Practices We Love! Every place has a way of doing things, a way of being together, customs and practices that give us meaning, joy, identity, and hope. On June 2nd we will gather over a hearty salad to take a look together at the practices we love, ask what they mean to us, how they express our deeply held values, and how they help us welcome others into our beloved community.

Rector’s Note: Worshipping with our Children

We value having our children in church with us. We like seeing them play together, we like hearing them sing, we notice their presence among us, and we appreciate them. We see the way they respect and like one another, and how they respect and like their teachers. Seeing them changes us, it gives us joy. How beautiful is that?!? We appreciate our children!

The Ordination of Jeanne Elizabeth Kaliszewski

On May 1st, Jeanne Elizabeth Kaliszewski was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests, to the joy and delight of all gathered. We at St. Philip are so glad to have her as a part of our community, and know she will be a wonderful priest in God’s church!
