Mardi Gras Gumbo Feast

Mardi Gras Gumbo Feast

February 25, 2020, 5:30 pm – 7:00 @ St. Philip the Deacon
120 NE Knott Street,

Come join us for Mardi Gras Gumbo! Some parishes do pancakes for Shrove/Fat Tuesday. We do Gumbo!

All are invited, this event is free and open to the public.

If you are able, please bring a non-perishable food item which will be shared with our Deacon’s Dining Hall guests or a donation for our ongoing work at St. Philip.

We celebrate the end of the Season of Light (Epiphany) and the beginning of Lent with what is known as “Shrove Tuesday”—the day immediately preceding Ash Wednesday—so named from the “shriving”, i.e. confession and absolution of the faithful that day. This Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras in French. Traditionally, Episcopalians celebrate with pancakes. At St. Philip, we are rejoicing in our Black and Caribbean heritage by enjoying homemade Gumbo.

Every season of fasting (Lent) should be preceded by a feast so come join us for Gumbo!
