Holy Week: a shared journey

Holy Week: a shared journey

Holy Week is a single journey from triumphant expectations through bitter disappointment into resurrection joy. No individual service stands alone; it is a part of a whole. It begins with Palm Sunday, and ends Easter morning. So come, celebrate with us!

Palm Sunday, March 28th will begin with celebration and the waving of palms as we sing ‘Hosanna’ together. We will gather at our normal Sunday morning service time, 10am. Bring your palms, evergreen branches or rosemary! We will listen to the passion gospel at the conclusion of the service.

Maundy Thursday, April 1st, we will gather at 7pm on zoom to give thanks over bread, wine, and wash ourselves as we sit with one another and Jesus, sharing today what has been shared for generations: a thanksgiving meal between friends in the midst of grief and struggle.

On Good Friday, April 2nd, the sanctuary will be open for quiet prayer from 11am-6pm.

At 7pm we will gather on Zoom for a service of readings and the praying of the Solemn Collects. For this service, we will be using a trial liturgy that addresses the anti-jewish language too often used in this service. This trial liturgy has been put together by clergy and scholars with a background in liturgy and Christian-Jewish relations. Feedback will be gathered for revision and eventual submission to the General Convention for approval as an alternative Good Friday liturgy.

We will celebrate the Great Vigil, April 3rd at 8pm on zoom, rejoicing together as we bring the light of Christ into our homes, and listen to some of the greatest stories of God’s people, praying and singing in response. Be sure to bring a candle!

We will celebrate Easter Sunday, April 4th at our normal 10am time on Zoom.

All Holy Week Services will use our Sunday morning Zoom meeting. Note that there is a waiting room, you will be let in by our tech vergers.
